Alpharetta, located North Atlanta GA of the Chattahoochee River was at first a place where settlers and Native Americans traded goods. First named New Prospect Camp Ground, it was a farming area with cotton as the main crop. Incorporated into Milton County in 1858, it adopted its current name of Alpharetta which is Greek for first town. In 1932, it became part of Fulton County as it stands today.
Roswell of North Atlanta was occupied by the Cherokee Indians and had forbidden settlers from going into this “Enchanted Land.” In 1928, a gold rush brought a numerous settlers into this region and among them was Roswell King. He founded the Roswell Manufacturing Company and his textile business led to the creation of the new town named Roswell.

Georgia license tags must be obtained within 30 days of establishing residency.

To get tags, you must have proof of ownership, current mileage, insurance, and emission inspection.
Emissions Certification
Vehicles over three years old, but fewer than 25 years old must have an emission test.
